Verse of the Day:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” – 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Devotion:
Fear isn’t just an emotion—it’s a tactic. It distorts how we see God, how we see ourselves, and how we step into the future. Fear whispers lies: “You’re not enough. You’ll never make it. God won’t come through.” And too often, we believe it.
But God offers us something stronger than fear: His perfect love.
1 John 4:18 tells us that perfect love drives out fear. Not ignores it. Not suppresses it. Drives it out. Like light casting out darkness, God’s love doesn’t share space with fear. The more we understand how deeply we are loved, the less room fear has to grip our hearts.
Fear thrives in uncertainty and punishment. It says, “If I fail, I’ll be rejected.” But God’s love says, “Even if you fall, I will still love you.” That’s the freedom His love brings. It anchors us in who He is—not in how we feel.
Think about Peter. He sank when he looked at the wind, but Jesus still reached for him. Jesus didn’t let fear define Peter’s story—love did. And the same is true for you.
The antidote to fear is not more courage—it’s more love. Not more control—it’s more surrender. When you know that God loves you completely, fear loses its power.
So today, don’t fight fear with force—fight it with faith in His love.
Prayer:
God, thank You for loving me perfectly, even when I feel afraid, unsure, or undeserving. Your love is steady, unconditional, and powerful. I confess that fear often creeps in and tries to control my thoughts, but I choose to stand in the truth of Your Word. Let Your love fill every space in my heart, pushing out fear and doubt. Help me to walk confidently—not in my own strength, but in the assurance that I am fully known, fully accepted, and fully loved by You. Teach me to rest in that love and reflect it in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection Questions:
- What fear is trying to take hold of your heart right now?
- How does knowing God loves you completely change how you face that fear?
- What is one way you can intentionally rest in His love today?
